Alexander Ryan Johnson
June 17, 1991 – October 13, 2020
Greenwood resident Alexander Ryan Johnson, 29, passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2020.
Ryan’s life may have been cut short, but he touched the hearts of many while he was with us.
Ryan was raised by Christopher Blane Johnson and Gwen Renee Rhodes after his parents’ divorce in 2005. Gwen saw Ryan as a son and raised him as her own.
Ryan was born June 17, 1991 in West Columbia to Christopher Blane Johnson and Sherry Courson Johnson.
Ryan’s father moved his family to Atlantic Beach, Florida, in 2005. Ryan loved the beach and spent as much time as he could there. He spent his teen and early adult years in Florida where he went to school and made several lifelong friends. Though he lived in Florida, Ryan remained a steadfast University of South Carolina Gamecock football fan.
Ryan had a passion for science and music. He received his certification as a Pharmacy Technician in 2012 from the South Dade Skills Center in Leisure City, Florida. He began playing the violin in middle school and continued playing throughout his life.
He sang in the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church choir, where he was a member. He also sang in the Greenwood Festival Chorale.
He worked in retail for several years before going to work in the manufacturing field. Most recently, he worked for Fujifilm Manufacturing in Greenwood.
He loved animals and had numerous pets through the years. His beloved cat, Sheba, has been placed in a loving home.
He will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor, infectious laugh, social consciousness, and his recent discovery of having a green thumb growing his first garden at his apartment.
Ryan is survived by his parents; his siblings, Teresa Roof (Barry), Christina Richburg, Ian Johnson (Maria), and Breanna Johnson Livingston (Wesley) and close friends, Onyx Graybill and Rodney Cleveland.
Ryan was dearly loved by his grandparents, Bill and Gwen Adkins, Gil Johnson and Nona Sharpe; his aunts, Rene Walker (Wayne), Cathy Wiggs, and Frankie Rhodes (Derek Courtney); the “Wolf Pack” – the Johnson-Hawking family, Uncle Todd, Aunt Judith and cousins, Gael, Belen and Isais.
His nephews, Andrew and Clay Roof, William and Andrew Laffin, Chandler Richburg and Braxdyn Britner; his nieces, Shaylynn and Elissa Richburg and Adilynn Johnson; his cousins, Bobby and Makenna Wheeler, Jessica and Violet Ruff and Allison Wiggs, as well as many other loyal and caring friends and relatives.
Ryan is preceded in death by his beloved grandmother, Sharon Courson, and grandfathers, William Courson, Charles Sharpe and David Ray Rhodes.
A memorial service for Ryan will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20th at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. A live -stream of the service may be viewed on the Caughman-Harman Funeral Home- Chapin Chapel Facebook page.
