Arlene Bittinger Sproles, 80 of Columbia, SC passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2025. She was born in Uniontown, Pennsylvania on August 24, 1944, to the late Jacob Roy Bittinger and Pearl Columbia (Hoover) Bittinger.
Arlene was proud of her career, which involved in-processing thousands of trainees over the years that arrived at Fort Jackson, SC for basic training. Arlene loved to sew, read mystery novels, watch old westerns on TV, and spend time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons Michael (Jennifer) of Indian Trail, NC and Kevin (Rebecca) of Chapin, SC. She is further survived by grandchildren Rowan, Carson, Lillian, Logan, Archer, and Hudson. Arlene was preceded in death by her sisters Catherine, Audrey, and Ethel, and brothers Roy, Burl, Arnold, Stanley, Jake, & Edwin.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm on Monday May 5, 2025 at Caughman Harman Funeral Home – Chapin Chapel 123 Columbia Ave. Chapin, SC 29036
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Chapin Christian Community Church.
