Carol Thomas passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2026 at Westminster Memory Care in Lexington, SC. She is survived by her son Michael Thomas (Jean), daughter Deborah Thomas Lyons (Quintin Lucas), granddaughter Carolyn Thomas, sister Brenda Thalacker, nephews Dwight and Daniel Thalacker, James and Steven Thomas, and nieces Cynthia Thalacker McFadden and Christine Thomas.
Carol was a very talented and creative artist. After graduating from Teaneck High School in Teaneck, NJ she attended Richmond Professional Institute (now Virginia Commonwealth University) in Richmond, VA where she earned a Commercial Arts degree. She married her high school sweetheart, Robert Thomas, and they resided in Allendale, NJ where she flourished in the roles of wife, mother, household manager and freelance graphic artist. Later, she worked full time as an Art Director in package design in the metropolitan New York area. After retiring, she and second-husband, Geoffrey moved to the Night Harbor neighborhood in Chapin, SC where they worked tirelessly renovating and managing rental properties. Carol again showcased her creative talents in painting, wallpapering, tiling and decorating details that made their properties shine.
An incredibly generous and loving heart, Carol cherished spending time with family and always went the extra mile to ensure every holiday and special occasion was memorable. Family reunions in the NC mountains were especially close to her heart. Carol had a rich social life and enjoyed playing bridge and bunco and participating in many activities at Night Harbor.
Carol was also an avid gardener and could spend all day “playing in dirt.” She loved animals, especially her pet turtles and Cockatiel, “Lucky” and enjoyed wild bird watching.
Please consider a donation in her honor to the Box Turtle Sanctuary of Central Virginia, where her beloved turtle, “Newbie” was re-homed and is now being cared for. https://www.boxturtlesanctuaryofcentralva.com/donate
