Stanley was born in Chapin, SC to the late George Bailey Slice and Louise Summer Slice. He graduated from Chapin High School in 1962, after which he served in the United States Army. Stanley, an avid sports fan known for his softball skills, also coached local American Legion baseball for many years. Stanley worked at the Lowman Home where he supervised the maintenance department and later worked for Mashburn Construction. Throughout his life, he worked for various construction companies and operated his own roofing business.
A faithful member of St. Jacobs Lutheran Church, Stanley was affectionately known as “the candy man” for always carrying a pocket full of sweets to share with the congregation. He was active in the Lutheran Men, Chapin American Legion Post #193, Jamil Shriners, South Carolina Cattlemen's Association and the Sertoma Club, where he served his legendary catfish stew.
Stanley was a devoted Carolina Gamecock fan who, as a member of the University Club, rarely missed a game. He loved farming and enjoyed sharing his cattle and donkeys with his grandkids. Despite his tough exterior, he was remembered for his generosity, compassion, and big heart.
Stanley was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Ruth Haile; his brothers; Jimmy Slice, Rev. Paul Slice, and Heyward Slice; and his nephew, Ronnie Epting.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Lucy Hood Slice; daughters, Angie Slice Jones (Jason) and Ginny Slice Sightler (Scott) and stepsons, Randy Coker (Crystal) and Todd Coker (Candace); grandchildren, Hannah Coker, Kyle Jones, Elizabeth Holmes, Katie Coker, Brantson Holmes, Emma Sightler, Madelyn Coker, Abby Sightler, and Owen Jones; brother, George Bailey Slice (Patsy) and sister, Margaret Slice Epting (Joe); and numerous nieces and nephews.
