Donald Derrick

CHAPIN – Donald “Chick” Derrick, 82, of Chapin, SC, died on April 27, 2015. He was born on August 13, 1932 to the late Horace Lee and Mary Jesse Moore Derrick in Columbia, SC. After serving in the US Air Force from 1951 to 1953, Don earned his Electrical Engineering degree from the University of South Carolina in 1957. He worked as an engineer for over 32 years with AT&T Bell Systems. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Chapin and was actively involved in his men’s Sunday school class. Don was an avid member of the USC Gamecock Club and a charter member of the Railbirds. He and his wife Jean were able to spend their retirement years following and supporting his beloved Gamecocks.

Don is survived by his devoted wife of 30 years, Jean Hahn Derrick; daughters Wendy Bahnsen and husband Chris, Amy East and husband Brack, and Suzanne Woodard and husband Billy; his “grands”: Lauren, Derrick, and Jon Bradley Bahnsen; James, Page, and Maren East; and Jake and Gwen Woodard. He is also survived by his brother, Larry Derrick; niece, Rita Hodges and nephew, David Derrick and their families; his uncle, O’Neil Derrick and his family, and many other relatives and friends. Don is preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his girls, Gwen Christiansen Derrick of Greensboro, NC.

His memorial service will be held Saturday, May 2, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Chapin, SC with Pastor David Tholstrup officiating. A reception for his family and friends will be held at the church following the service. As a tribute to this loyal USC fan, all Gamecocks are invited to wear your Garnet and Black.
