CHAPIN – Casual graveside funeral services for Donald “Donnie” Hugh Slice, 70, of Chapin, will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, November 2, 2020 at St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Chapin, SC. Reverend Larry Hagerty will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. before the services in the church Fellowship Hall.
Born February 27, 1950 to the late Colie Evans and Violet Lindler Slice, he passed away Friday, October 30, 2020 after a long and hard-fought battle with cancer. Donnie served in the Army National Guard from 1968 to 1974 as a Grade-Specialist E5. He had many talents and skills. He spent 6 years in construction, 47 years as a Master Automotive Technician and retired in 2011 from the Automotive School at Midlands Technical College. Most knew Donnie for his expertise in automotive mechanics and would allow “no one but Donnie” to touch their vehicle. Outside of automotive repair, there wasn’t much he couldn’t do. One of his specialties was cooking for his family and friends. Whether it was at home in his shop or tailgating at Clemson, you could always be assured that the food was great and there was enough for an army. Donnie took great joy in his family, especially his grandchildren and great granddaughter. Their Papa was their hero. Donnie was a lifelong member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Brenda Derrick Slice, and his children, Tammy (Mark) Hollis and Wes (Clara) Slice, all of Chapin. Donnie or “Papa” is also survived by his grandchildren, Paige (Jeremy) Ellisor, Connor Hollis, Makenna Slice and Landon Slice and a great granddaughter, Hollis Mae Ellisor.
Thank you to all the family, friends and community who have shared prayers, visits and kind words over the past year.
Memorials may be made to St. Thomas Lutheran Church.
