
CHAPIN – Dorothy Barclay Huse, 92, passed away on Monday, November 25, 2013. Dorothy was born in Mobile, AL, November 4, 1921. She was the daughter of Hugh Gaylord and Dorothy Talcott Barclay. She worked for the Red Cross during World War II, making donuts for the troops as a recreation worker. She met her husband, Barnett Huse II, a bomber pilot in the American Air Force, aboard the Queen Elizabeth. They remained in contact during their deployments and were married shortly upon their return to the states in August, 1945. Dorothy had two children, Lawrence (deceased) and Elizabeth. She lived in California, Hawaii, Virginia, and South Carolina, and spent two years traveling the states in a mobile home, as well as traveling to Europe, Russia, and China. She was active in horse activities as a District Commissioner for Difficult Run Pony Club in Fairfax, VA and as a judge for the Cross Country event in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. Upon retiring to South Carolina she resumed working for the Red Cross's Disaster Relief department after Hurricane Hugo, working at disaster sites in California, New York, Florida, and the Caribbean. She was also an avid swimmer, bridge player, and an active member and former president of the Settler's Club. She will be remembered by her daughter, Elizabeth Lennon, her son-in-law Mark William Lennon, her grandchildren, Dean Huse and Mark Barnett Lennon, and her many friends. There will be a memorial service at Church of the Apostles, 1520 Bull St., Columbia, SC on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at 12:00 noon. Memorials may be sent in Dorothy's memory to the American Red Cross.
