Evelyn Ackerman Fritz

CHAPIN- Evelyn Ackerman Fritz, 92, of White Rock, SC was born in Bishopville on July 11, 1925 to Harvey and Juanita Ackerman. An honor graduate of Bishopville High School, she enrolled in Columbia College at age 17 where she met and married William Richard Fritz, a student at the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary, in February 1946. During their four children's formative years, Evelyn returned to Columbia College to earn an elementary education degree. She taught in the Columbia, SC area schools for 12 years during the desegregation era. Evelyn was an active fundraiser for the schools in which she taught: the American Heart Association and the Cancer Society among other charities. She enjoyed family history and loved to serve others. Evelyn was an inspired fiber artist who created treasured gifts of quilts, crocheted items and knitted pieces for her family, friends and area chapels. In the late 1990s, Evelyn and Dick became residents at the Lowman Home where she organized other residents to create hundreds of quilts to be sent abroad to people served by church agencies. After her husband's passing, Evelyn remained at the Home as a loved and respected member of the community. Following a brief illness, she passed away Sunday, July 1, 2018. Evelyn is survived by two daughters, Kathlyn Ann (Bruce Nellsmith), Rebecca Zinko (Charles) and two sons, Richard and Charles (Jo Prostko). She is also survived by seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. The family is deeply grateful to the Lowman Home staff for their devoted care for Evelyn during her residence there. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 12 at 2:00 p.m. in New Life Chapel, The Heritage at Lowman. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the charity of your choice. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Chapin Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

Becky and the rest of the family. I was truly sorry to learn of Ms. Evelyn's passing. I am sure you all will miss her, as I also miss her since I left. She truly was a very sweet lady. Someone I had become very proud to have known. May you all find comfort in knowing that you have the chance of seeing her again in Eternity. May GOD bless and keep each of you.
Sincere Condolences,

Romia Jeter

This is many years later. However I so remember your family as we lived across the street from you; and I taught Kathy and Dick music at University High School and your Dad gave Phil much pleasure by teaching him in the Seminary Choir.
May God put His arms around all of you, and comfort you, as only He can

Dear Cathy, Becky, Richard and others dear to Evelyn, We go back a long way - to 1948 when Dad joined the faculty at LTSS and we were neighbors on campus - well, after your births, anyway. From 1960 - 64 I was back as a student and your Dad was special to us in the library and directing the choir. I always thought your Mom was so beautiful, and I now share your sorrow in her death. May the Peace and Comfort of our Risen Lord Jesus be with you. In Christ's love, David & Diana
