Flo was born March 31, 1944 in Inman, South Carolina to the late Thamer Wood and Zola Taylor Wood. She was a 1962 graduate of Brookland-Cayce High School. She retired from the John H. Harland Company of Columbia, SC where she spent many years and gained lifelong friendships with her co-workers.
Flo married her beloved husband, Donald “Donnie” Bickley, in 1973. The love they had for one another was an inspiration to everyone around them.
Flo spent her years after retirement at home in Chapin with Donnie, where she cooked meals on Sundays for her family, filled in the crossword every day, and finished nearly impossible jigsaw puzzles. She was a constant loving presence in the lives of her children and grandchildren. In later years, after her sight began to fail, her mind stayed ever sharp and curious. She could remember the date of any event without question and would frequently ask family to look up obscure facts that she was curious about. If you were able to get a word in conversation with her, she would delight in hearing updates about everyone she knew. She was beautiful, hard-headed, clever, fierce, and funny. She lived a full life and although her family misses her dearly, there is comfort in knowing that she has found healing and rest with her Savior.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Donald Bickley of Chapin, SC; sons, Rudy Waller (Dani) and Tim Waller (Shannon); and stepdaughter, Lorraine; grandchildren, Meaghan Waller Haxton (Josh), Jessi Waller, Jacob Waller and Joshua Waller; great-granddaughter, Raelynn Waller; sister, Betty Still; and numerous additional family and friends.
She is predeceased by her parents; and brothers, Raymond and Tommy.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 26 at 11:00 A.M. at Chapin Christian Community Church (formerly Chapin United Methodist Church), 415 Lexington Ave, Chapin, SC 29036. Family will receive visitors immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff of NHC HealthCare Lexington for their care and guidance in the past months.
As Flo reminded everyone at the end of a visit or call, this is “not goodbye, just see you later.”
We’ll see you later, Mimi. We love you.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.caughmanchapin.com for the Bickley family.
