Georgia Mae Myers Hamer

CHAPIN - Georgia Mae Myers Hamer passed away on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at The Heritage of Lowman Home in White Rock, SC, after 87 years of life. The family will receive friends and family from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, November 8, 2018 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Chapin Chapel, 123 Columbia Ave., Chapin, SC, with interment at a later date. Born in Batesburg, SC, on May 4th, she was the youngest daughter to the late George Yates Myers and Roxie Berry Myers. She was a member of Central Church of the Nazarene in West Columbia. After the death of her husband, Edgar, in 1974, Georgia worked for years at Knocky’s Restaurant and the Pantry in Chapin, SC. She loved to garden and enjoyed being outside. She enjoyed watching Atlanta Braves baseball and cheering for Clemson football. She was devoted to her grandchildren (Jennifer, Carrie, Cory and Patrick), who lived close, until she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. The disease finally removed all of her memories of her family and the ability to take care of herself. Survivors of the Hamer family include her daughters, Ella (Alfred) Goodwin of Tallahassee and Irene (Michael) Collins of Gaston; granddaughters, Jennifer (Paul) Finch and Carrie Collins; grandsons, Derek Hamer, Joseph Goodwin, Cory (Caroline) Cato and Patrick Cato. Survivors of the Hill family include her daughter, Virginia Altman of Lexington and son, Donnie (Susie) Hill of Mullins; granddaughter, Ginger (David) Jordan; grandsons, Gregory Hill, Tim (Lisa) Altman and Chris Collins; 13 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Georgia was preceded in death by her husbands, Donnie L. Hill and Edgar A. Hamer; daughters, Deborah Hamer Shaw, ‘Cile’ Cato Manning and Barbara Hill Collins; grandson, Robbie Collinssister, Jannie Parrish and her brothers, Davis, Otis, Dewitt and Walter Myers. The family would like to thank The Heritage of Lowman White Rock Rehabilitation and Healthcare, Bethel Unit, for years of love and care and to Lutheran Hospice for its care during the final months, and especially a heartfelt thank you to her hospice nurse, Holly.
