Gloria is survived by her devoted husband, Heyward Caulder; daughter, Dorian "Dodie" Carter; son, Bruce "Rick" Carter (Karen); grandsons, Ryan Carter (Kimmie), Bruce Edward Carter (Alyssa), and Eric Carter; six cherished great grandchildren; nephew, Donnie Oliver (Kristen); grand nephews, Dizz and Van; grand niece, Lila; furbabies, WinnDixie, Lil Girl, Maddie and Pumpkin.
Gloria lived a rich, varied and fulfilled life. She retired from The Adjutant General's Office after twenty-eight years of service. She developed special friendships that lasted beyond her working years.
Gloria was a long-standing member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Irmo, S.C. She participated in many acts of service: choir, church council, alter guild, vacation Bible school and decorating for special events. Her faith and the St. John's community was her foundation in life.
In Gloria's spare time, she worked for a lifelong friend, Dupre Percival of Dupre Catering. She enjoyed assisting and presenting the many landscapes of food. "Gloworm" treasured her time with the Percival family.
Gloria loved animals, and she volunteered for several animal rescue organizations. Typically, her rescues became her pets.
Because of her enjoyment of retailing and her devotion to animals, we feel confident the stores will have their lights on, and her past furbabies will greet Gloria at Heaven's door. Her family loved and adored her.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1028 St. Johns Road, Irmo, SC 29063. Burial will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, June 2, 2025 at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC 29229.
