

Gloria was born on June 23, 1938 in Columbia, SC to the late James Thomas and Nell Drake Seay.
She married the late William (Billy) Hayne Harmon (Captain USN retired) on May 31, 1959. They and their 4 children, traveled the states throughout Billy’s Naval career before resettling in South Carolina in their home in Chapin in 1982.
After Billy’s passing in 2007, Gloria married Robert Lynn Ziemer on February 7, 2009. Together, they enjoyed traveling, stage acting with the Orangeburg Part-Time Players, and as vocal entertainers with the Chapin Chirpers Group. They are active members of St. Jacob’s Lutheran Church in Chapin.
Gloria was a graduate of Columbia High School and an alumna of the University of South Carolina. Professionally, she was an elementary school teacher and later owned her own florist business, Flowers by Gloria. She was active in supporting her community in the areas of social services and arts including Navy Relief, various leadership roles in her churches as pianist, organist, choir member and music director and member of the Chapin Chirpers and Dutch Fork Choral Society.
Gloria was predeceased by her husband, William (Billy); son, Michael Thomas Harmon; parents, Tom and Nell Seay; and older brother, James Thomas Seay, Jr.
She is survived by her husband, Robert (Bob) Ziemer; her children, William Hayne (Sue) Harmon, Jr. of Columbia, SC, Karen Kay (Mark) Girardeau of Savannah, GA, and Patrick Seay (Erica) Harmon of Ossining, NY; grandchildren, Jaclyn (Jon) Bell, Lara (Paul) Boulette, Steven (Sally) Harmon, Thomas Curtis, Gregory (Carina) Harmon, Liam Curtis and Elliott Harmon; great-grandchildren, Michael Curtis, Kaitlyn Bell, Sophia Castellano, Chloe Bell, David Castellano, Vance Harmon, Ellie Harmon and Oliver Harmon. She has two step-children, Lori (Shane) Lusk and Debra (Dan) Barbieri, three step-grandchildren and great grandchildren. She leaves behind numerous friends and family members as well. She also is survived by her siblings, Nancy Sellers, Billy Seay, Ray Seay and Mark (Chris) Seay.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:30pm on Friday, February 28th at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home – Chapin Chapel, located at 123 Columbia Ave, Chapin, SC.
Services will be held at 11:00 am at St. Jacob’s Lutheran Church in Chapin, located at 844 Columbia Ave, Chapin, SC on Saturday, March 1, 2025. Interment will follow at St. Thomas Lutheran Church Cemetery, 215 Saint Thomas Church Road Chapin, SC.
Pastor David Nuottila will preside. Pallbearers are Steven Harmon, Gregory Harmon, Liam Curtis, Jon Bell, Mark Girardeau and Mark Seay.
The family extends their gratitude to the medical staffs at Lexington Medical Center and Agape Hospice House of Lexington for Gloria’s care they provided during her illness.
