Harriett H. Morgan

Harriett Morgan, 84, passed away peacefully in her home in Chapin, SC on Thursday, October 7, 2021, after a period of declining health.

Harriett was born June 27, 1937 in Langston, AL. She attended Troy State University where she met and married William “Bill” Morgan in 1956. Harriett and Bill moved to South Carolina in 1961 where they built a life together in Chapin and raised their three sons, Billy (Katie), Bob (Janis), and John (Claudia).

Harriett loved teaching. She graduated from the University of South Carolina and spent many years as an educational assistant and reading coach at LexRich 5’s Nursery Road Elementary School. After her retirement, she spent time teaching and loving her grandchildren. Harriett was a member of Rosewood Community Church.

Along with her sons and their wives, Harriett is survived by eight grandchildren, Will (Hannah), Rachel, Bobby, JD, Connor, Mary, Keri, and Xander Morgan, and two great-grandchildren, Gabriel and Elias Morgan. She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert “Bob” Harding and Margarie Nelms Harding, and her husband, Bill Morgan.

A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, October 10, 2021, at 3:00 PM at the Rosewood Community Church, 3707 Moss Ave., Columbia, SC 29205. The family will receive friends immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the District Five Foundation, PO Box 129, Ballentine, SC 29002. Funds will be earmarked for Reading Instructors in District Five.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. I had the honor to work with Harriet at NRES and to reconnect with her later at LMES when her grandchildren started school. She loved each of you dearly and had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren! May sweet memories be a comfort as you grieve her loss.
