Born May 18, 1945 in Charleston, he was the son of Henry Rufus Sweatman, Sr. and Dorothy Condon Sweatman. Henry was a graduate of Rivers High School and the University of South Carolina and was a faithful member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, including its Men’s Club and weekly Wednesday Bible Study.
After almost thirty years of service, he retired from the State Department of Education as audit director. He was a devoted father and husband and is survived by his wife of 53 years, the love of his life, Barbara Bostain Sweatman. He loved his children and grandchildren immensely.
Surviving are his sons, Mark Christopher Sweatman and his wife Lisa of Columbia, SC and Paul Henry Addison Sweatman of Columbia, SC; daughter, Anna Sweatman Rushton and husband Harrison of Lexington, SC and five grandchildren, Bennett Rushton, Ellie Rushton, Abigail Tuorto, Henry Sweatman, and McGill Sweatman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on July 5 at 1:30 pm at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Chapin, South Carolina with burial to follow at Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church in Chapin. The family will receive friends at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church after burial has concluded. The service may also be viewed via the Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church website at www.ollchapin.org.
Pallbearers are Will Morrison, Bill Stuckey, Ronnie Bostain, Jack Parrish, Michael Searson, and Tom Cubbage. Honorary pallbearers are Tommy Lavelle, Ronnie Sweatman, Darrell JaBour, Robert Whitesides, Bryan Harwell, Ernest Weaver, Doug Hamrick, Wayne Cannon, Jon Linder, and George Bilinski.
