Howard was the true definition of a farmer, tending to his garden and raising many animals, especially miniature horses, throughout his life. A hardworking man, he spent many years in construction, always building with his hands and finding joy in his work. He loved spending time in his barn, and was known for his exceptional skills in cooking the best BBQ and hash.
Howard also spent some time on the road as a truck driver, often taking his daughter, Elaine, along on his travels. It was rare to see him without his signature hat and a pencil or two tucked into his shirt pocket. A lifelong member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Howard was devoted to his faith and his community.
He was preceded in death by his son, Howard E. McCartha, Jr; and his brothers, Frank Lynn McCartha, Jr. and John Robert McCartha Sr.
He is survived by his daughter, Elaine DeWeese (David); his granddaughter, Susan Lourigan (Steven); two great-granddaughters, Sarah and Scarlet Lourigan; numerous nieces and nephews, and his sweet pup, Princess. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
A visitation will be held on Friday, March 7, 2024, at 1:00PM at Bethel Lutheran Church, followed by a service at 2:00PM. He will be laid to rest at Bethel Lutheran Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Bethel Lutheran Church in Howard’s memory.
