Jack Odell Mayo, of Chapin, South Carolina, went home to his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at the age of 89. He was born on February 3rd, 1934 in Columbia, SC to the late Alma Lizzie Hulon and Walter D. Mayo.
Jack was a 1953 graduate of Olympia High School in Columbia, South Carolina. After high school, he joined the Navy and then married the sweetheart of his life, Patricia Wiles. They were married for 64 years. Jack retired after 42 years with Columbia Cooling & Heating. He was an active member of Chapin Christian Community Church, (formally Chapin UMC) and he was also a member of the Christian Fellowship Sunday School Class. Jack was active in his community while serving many years with the Chapin Ruritan Club.
Church and family were the highest priorities for Jack. He loved hunting, baseball, softball and gardening. Jack loved his childhood in the Olympia Village and remained lifelong friends with many.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Wiles Mayo; sons, Dale Dean Mayo (Jan) and Walt Dennie Mayo; brother, Johnny David Mayo (Sue); grandchildren, Jack Maxwell Mayo, Andy Davis (Morgan), and Carmen Andersen (Nicholas); great-granddaughter, Mary Grace Andersen; sister-in-law, Claire Mayo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jack was predeceased by his parents, Alma Lizzie Hulon and Walter D. Mayo, and his brothers, Ted Hulon Mayo and Billy Mayo.
A visitation will be held for Jack from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Sunday, October 1st, 2023 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Chapin Chapel located at 123 Columbia Avenue, Chapin, SC 29036. A funeral service will take place at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 2nd, 2023 at Chapin Christian Community Church, (formally Chapin UMC), 415 Lexington Ave, Chapin, SC 29036 with a burial to follow the service in the church cemetery.
