

Born in Conway, South Carolina, Jim was the son of the late Cyrus W. Lewis and Bessie Page Lewis. He received his Bachelor of Science from the College of Charleston and later earned a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of South Carolina.
Jim dedicated many years of service as an administrator for the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice, where he was admired for his integrity, compassion, and steadfast commitment to public service. After retiring, he continued giving back to his community as a beloved bus driver for Lexington-Richland School District Five, where he formed lasting connections with students and their families.
Jim had a generous spirit and was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was a friend to many and a source of strength and support.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Reeves Lewis; and his beloved wife, Monica Gatch Lewis.
Jim is survived by his sons, James F. Lewis, Jr. (Dorothy) of Chapin and Stephen T. Lewis (Traci) of Charleston; his six grandchildren, Sarah Lewis, Eddie Lewis, Grace Lewis, Cy Lewis, Trey Lewis, and Lore Mae Lewis; his sister, Ann Lewis Baker of Moncks Corner; and his much-loved dog, “The Dude,” who brought him great joy and companionship.
Jim will be remembered for his warm heart, unwavering love for his family, and the wisdom he shared with those around him. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the family who will carry his memory forward with pride and affection.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life at a later date to honor and remember Jim.
