
He was born July 17, 1947, in Clarksburg, WV, to the late William Raymond “Ray” Swick and Emma Etta Queen Swick.
Surviving are one daughter, Paula Jo Swick, of Clarksburg, WV, one son, Dr. James J. Swick II, and wife, Lisa, of Chapin, SC.; five grandchildren, D.J. Poling, and wife, Hope, of Lindora, PA, Kiira Thompkins,of Clarksburg, Emma Poling, Parsons, of WV, and, Blake and Alyssa Swick, of Chapin SC.; six great-grandchildren, Damien Xavier Poling, Ralin Scout Poling, Ashley Sayer Poling, Evelyn Danielle Poling, Aiden Cole Gilmore, and Caleb Bryant Gilmore.; one sister, Barbara (Randy) Skinner, of Bridgeport, WV; two brothers, William R. Swick (Johnny Cusack), Sumter, SC, and, H. David (Judy) Swick, Jane Lew, of WV.; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Edwina Palmer, and his former spouse, Dorothy Swick.
He was a 1965 graduate of Roosevelt-Wilson High School and a graduate of Fairmont State College with a degree in Math. He worked as an engineering technician for Equitable Gas and Equitrans for more than 30 years. Jim was a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan. He coached Babe Ruth in Harrison County for 15 years with two of his best friends, Eddie Koreski and Dominick Marano. He was also a little league baseball umpire. He had celebrated a special 17th birthday in January.
Jim grew up in the Congregational Missionary Alliance Church in Stonewood, WV, and currently attended the Chapin United Methodist Church in Chapin, SC. Services for James Joseph Swick, will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2016 at Chapin, United Methodist Church with visitation to follow at the church. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Chapin Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
