CHAPIN – John William “Jack” Rodgers, Jr., 84, passed away peacefully in his home in Chapin, SC on Friday, November 16, 2012. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Margie Rodgers of Deerfield Beach, FL. and brother, Robert Rodgers of Stone Mountain, GA. Jack was the loving husband of 61 years to Ingeborg Schwendig Rodgers. He was born on October 5, 1928 in Manhattan, NY. The couple moved to Chapin, SC, 16 years ago. Jack was a member of Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church and a life time member of the United States Army Association. Jack enlisted in the US Army and retired from the National Guard as a LT. Colonel after 35 years; he loved and served his Country. He was a graduate of Wagner College in Staten Island, NY and Brooklyn College of Pharmacy in Brooklyn, NY. He worked for Sandoz (now Novatis) in East Hanover, NJ for 35 years. He was active in World Wide Toastmasters and he taught at Picatinny Arsenal in Dover, NJ. He was a member of the NRA, AARP and American Radio Relay League.
Surviving are his four children, John William “JR” Rodgers III (Cathy) of Chapin, SC, Karen Susan Rodgers Guarino (Keith) of Oak Ridge, NC, David Douglas Rodgers of Charlotte, NC, Deborah Ann Rodgers of Somerset, NJ; grandson, John William “Will” Rodgers IV and Justin Perry “JP” Rodgers of Chapin, SC; sister-in-law, Kathy Rodgers; nephew, Jeremy Rodgers; niece, Meghan Rodgers Patterson of Boca Raton, FL and cousin, Bruce Rodgers of Deerfield Beach, FL.
Jack had a love of life, was an avid reader of history and stamp collector. He will be missed by his family and his three feline companions, Ollie, Missy and Kelly.
Services will be on Monday, November 19, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church with burial following at the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorials be made to Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church Building Fund, 101 E. Boundary, Chapin, SC 29036.
