Joseph Walker Taylor passed away Oct 13, 2025 at his home in Chapin, South Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Taylor, Jr. Joe was born in Brunswick, GA on Nov 15, 1936. He attended local schools and graduated from Glynn Academy High School in 1954. He participated in football and baseball while at Glynn Academy. After High School, he enrolled in Georgia Tech where he majored in Business Administration and minored in Chili dogs with a PC at the Varsity. He graduated in 1958 and joined the Army as a Second Lieutenant. After his service he became self-employed at Taylor Cigarette and Vending Co retiring in 2000.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Susan Ray, and their children, Terri Taylor, Joe Taylor Jr. (Jana), Beth Tatum (Keith), and Tony Waters (Sheryl). Joe also leaves behind five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was a licensed Coast Guard Captain and enjoyed boating his entire life. Joe was a kind man who made life better just by being in it. He loved deeply, worked hard and never missed a chance to make us laugh. As a husband, he was a best friend. As a father, he was patient, wise and endlessly loving.
A memorial service and reception will be scheduled on St. Simons Island, GA at a later date for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly request donations to Wounded Warrior Project or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
