Katherine Odessa Koon

CHAPIN- Funeral service for Katherine Monts Bickley Koon, 89, better known by loved ones and friends as “Nanny Koon”, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at Bethel Lutheran Church in White Rock, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Pastor Brett Collins will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, November 28, 2011 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Chapin Chapel. Memorials may be made to Bethel Lutheran Church, PO Box 367, White Rock, SC 29177.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Friends of Crooked Creek Park and The Sharers Sunday School Class.

Mrs. Koon was born May 17, 1922 in Chapin, SC and passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2011. She was a daughter of the late Jim and Mae Harmon Monts. Mrs. Koon retired from Anaconda Ericson. She was a life member of the VFW Post 8069, and a member of the AARP Chapin Chapter, Lunch Bunch of Crooked Creek of Chapin, and White Rock Friends. She was also a member of Bethel Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Koon is survived by her sons; O’Neal (Miriam), Donnie (Flo), and Ronnie (Carolyn) Bickley all of Chapin; daughters, Edith “Sister” Leaphart of Batesburg; Becky McCartha and Ann Summer of Chapin, Verna Sawyer of Columbia, Mary Coltrane of Chapin and Debra (Buddy) Slagle of Tampa Fl; 2 foster children, Matthew and Michael Havird; step-children, Wayne (Geraldine) and Lou Koon of Little Mountain; 21 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Margorie Monts; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her 1st husband, Vernon Bickley; 2nd husband, Everett Koon; son, David Bickley; grandsons, Steve Boland and Corky Coltrane; step-son, Larry Koon; parents, Jim and Mae Monts; sister, Alberta Bickley; brother, Robert Monts; sons-in-law, Kendall Leaphart, Douglas McCartha, Bennie Summer, and Fred Sawyer.
