

CHAPIN – Funeral services for Marion Wylie Stephenson, Sr., 74, of Chapin, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, July 7, 2016 at Chapin United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Chapin United Methodist Church or We Care Food Pantry in Chapin, SC. There will be a gathering that all are invited to after the service at the Aun Residence, 107 Inlet Place, Chapin, SC.
Marion Stephenson was born December 19, 1941 in Chester, SC and passed away Thursday, June 30, 2016 while surrounded by his wife and children. He was a son of the late, Walter Holmes Stephenson and Marie Hall Stephenson, and grew up in Chester, SC where he was a talented Football and Baseball player. He was a member of Lake Murray Presbyterian Church at the time of his death.
A dedicated husband, Marion was married to Jo Stephenson of Chester, SC, and last year celebrated 50 wonderful years of marriage together. Marion and Jo had two children and have lived in Chapin, South Carolina since 1976.
Possessing a strong work ethic, Marion worked in construction for 50+ years. He was a Superintendent /Project Manager for Southern Industrial, the Crane Company, and Wilhoit Steel Erectors, and frequently consulted with other construction companies on issues in which he specialized.
A member of the Masons and Lake Murray Presbyterian, Marion was heavily involved as a volunteer for his church in his early years and was active in his Mason chapter, recently receiving a life-long designation as a Mason. He was a long time member of Mid Carolina Country Club, where he was an avid golfer and won many tournaments and coordinated golf member events such as the Captain’s Choice.
A life-long Gamecock, Marion was a member of the Gamecock Club for 36 years, and enjoyed attending games with family and friends.
Marion was a Veteran, having served his country in the United States Army during the Berlin crisis. He was also a devoted and dedicated father and grandfather of five beautiful grandchildren, and was affectionately known as “Bampie” to his grandbabies.
Mr. Stephenson is survived by his wife, Jo Stephenson, his daughter, Peggy Stephenson Aun (Andy); and son, Wylie Stephenson, Jr. (Stephany) all of Chapin, SC; grandchildren, AJ Aun, Ana Aun, Trey, Nicky and Madison Stephenson; and brothers, Henry Stephenson, (Lynda), Walter Stephenson (Maureen), and Frances Stephenson (Linda), all of whom reside in Chester, SC. He is predeceased by a brother, James Stephenson.
He will be sorely missed by his family and friends, and leaves a legacy of faith, love and hope for his children and grandchildren.
