

Mary is survived by her brother, Francis Shealy, nephew, David Shealy & Miriam Shealy, niece Dana & Matthew Newell, great nephews and nieces, Stephanie & Zach May, Victoria and Thomas Mathis, Ethan Newell, Payton Newell, and Carson Newell, and great-great nephew Nolan May.
Mary lived a full life including a brilliant career in education. She began as a high school teacher progressing to her final position as the principal for the education program at the Broad River Correctional Facility. Additionally, she was active on the family farm and a partner with Midlands Tax Service. She earned her bachelor’s degree at Newberry College and her master’s degree at the University of South Carolina.
Mary was most happy when she was home on the farm working the land, tending to animals, feeding her resident peacock. She loved her family and friends with a big heart and was a humble servant of God, her church, and to all of God’s creatures.
Mary will be missed dearly by many, but her legacy of strength, steadfast faith, and her keen sense of humor, will serve as a guiding light for years to come.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 29 at St. Thomas Lutheran Church, 215 St. Thomas Church Rd, Chapin, SC 29036 with a visitation to follow. A burial will take place in the church cemetery.
