Patrick Ross Flanagan was born on April 2, 1980 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC to his mother, Carol Ann Flanagan (Ross) and his late father, Clyde Harvey Flanagan Jr., MD. Patrick passed away unexpectedly at his home in Columbia, South Carolina on April 23, 2020 at the age of 40.
Patrick is survived by his wife, Charlotte Blijjenberg Flanagan; his son, Conor Ross Flanagan; his mother, Carol A. Flanagan; sister, Colleen H. Flanagan, and brother, Clyde H. Flanagan III “Jay” (Stacy) as well as his nephew, Michael Flanagan and nieces, Ashley Miller (Roberto), Amber Flanagan, and Abigail Mardis (Tyler). He was predeceased by his father, Clyde H. Flanagan Jr., MD, on October 16, 2019, and his older brother, Christopher S. Flanagan in 2010.
Patrick was an animated person with an unforgettable presence and personality that made an impression on everyone he met. He had a brilliant mind and was always passionate about discovering and sharing new ideas, and immersing himself in different cultures and experiences. An avid reader, Patrick especially enjoyed science fiction and fantasy related books, movies, and computer games. He attended Ben Lippen High School and graduated from Columbia International University with a Bachelor of Science in Bible Studies.
Most of all, however, Patrick was a devout Christian whose faith defined him as a person and influenced everything he did. He was baptized as a child at Chapin Baptist Church in Chapin, South Carolina and currently attended the Chinese Christian Church of Columbia where he found his second family who continually surrounded him with love and support. His family will always be grateful for the dedication and love shown to Patrick and his wife, Charlotte, by their church family, especially Pastor Tom Siwicki and Dan and Anita Lam. Patrick constantly strove to share Christ's love with everyone he met. He had a big heart and a generous spirit, and he was incredibly devoted to his family. He was a loving father, husband, son, and brother.
Due to the current circumstances, his family will hold a private graveside service without visitation. Livestreaming will be viewable on Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Chapin Chapel Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/ChapinChapel/. They plan to hold a memorial service for all to attend later this summer at his church, with dates to be announced.
