
IRMO – Rena Nancy Newell, 78, passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2013. She was born March 30, 1935 in Middlebury, VT and was the daughter of the late Herbert E. Newell and Nellie Victoria Porter.
Ms. Newell graduated from high school in 1953 and attended Castleton State Teachers College and the McConnell School in Minneapolis, MN. She was a reservationist with the Capital Air Lines and was stationed in Washington, DC. In 1969, at age 34, she went to Delaware State College and graduated Alpha Kappa Mu on May 13, 1973 at age 38. Ms. Newell became a teacher and taught for many years. She loved to travel, going to Hawaii, Alaska and Turkey. She had a passion for animals, teaching and loved to cook. She retired early to pursue a career as a Mary Kay consultant and won many awards. She lived in Delaware from 1967 to 2002 when she moved to Columbia, SC.
Ms. Newell is survived by her daughters, Vicki Susan Heinz, Leslie Jill Mannino and Tracy Merson; grandchildren, Jeramia, Joshua and Joel Milette, Jonathan Lovell, Christopher and Jennifer Kascsak, Todd and Katie Merson; great-grandchildren, Garrett Moore, Evan and Alyssa Kascsak, and Mason and Archer Milette.
A Celebration of Life Service for Rena Nancy Newell will be held at a later date. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Chapin Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
