Mrs. Berry passed away on Monday, December 19, 2011 at Generations of Chapin surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Dillon County on November 24, 1918. She was the daughter of the late David Gaston Burney and Sophia Brumble Burney. She was an active life-long member of the First Baptist Church in Dillon where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years.

Mrs. Berry was married to Claude Coleman “Red” Berry for fifty-seven years. He predeceased her in April, 2004. After retirement she and her husband enjoyed traveling with family and friends. Of utmost importance to Mrs. Berry was her family. She was a devoted mother, wife, grandmother and sister.

In June, 2001, she and her husband moved to Chapin, SC to be closer to her daughter, Suzanne and her family. After moving to Chapin, she still loved hearing from friends and family in Dillon. Even though she missed “home”, she loved being close to her grandchildren, Thomas, David and Rachel. She was able to enjoy many of their sporting events.

She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Berry Burriss and son-in-law, T. Moffat Burriss, Jr. of Chapin; her grandchildren whom she adored, Thomas Moffatt Burriss, III, David Berry Burriss of Chapin and Rachel Caroline Burriss of Charleston. Mrs. Berry is survived by one sister, Mrs. H. B. Wheeler “Agnes” of Garner, NC. She was predeceased by her sister, Mrs. Roy Lee Bracey “Louise” and one brother, David Gaston Burney. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Mrs. David G. Burney “Edna” and brothers-in-law, Ray Berry and Harry Berry and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank her wonderful caregivers, Renel Maddox and Mary Wise for their loving care during the past years. We also would like to thank the staff at Generations for their support and care.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 400 N. 4th Avenue, Dillon, SC 29536 or to Harmony Care Hospice, 121 Hunter Village Suite H, Irmo, SC 29063.
