Thomas Patrick Tracy, known to many as Tom or Tommy, 87, of Yonkers, NY, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2025. He was born on June 7, 1938, in the Bronx, the seventh of ten children to Thomas and Loretta Tracy. Tom lived a rich life on his own terms—filled with stories, laughter, and a deeply rooted sense of joy.
Known for his kindness and quick wit, Tom never took life too seriously. He was the kind of man people loved to be around—genuine, warm, and always ready with a smile or a good laugh. A devoted father and grandfather, he poured everything he had into creating unforgettable memories and opportunities for his family, leaving behind a legacy that will carry on for generations.
Tom proudly served the New York City Fire Department for 38 years, retiring as Captain in 2002. His love for the job was unmistakable—he cherished his time with the FDNY and spoke often, and with great enthusiasm, about the camaraderie, humor, and lifelong bonds he shared with his fellow firefighters.
Tom served in the United States Navy and later earned his degree in Fire Science from John Jay College of Criminal Justice, graduating cum laude—an achievement in which he took great personal pride.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Danielle Tracy of Frederick, MD; his daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Christopher Kunkle of Chapin, SC; and his grandchildren: Thomas Tracy of Dallas, TX; Lindsay Tracy of Frederick, MD; and Daniel, Owen, and Phoebe Kunkle of Chapin, SC. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary Orr and Margaret (Erich) Schulze, both of Myrtle Beach, SC; his sister-in-law, Cheryl Tracy of Jackson, New Jersey; and dozens of beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Tom was predeceased by his siblings: Loretta Tracy, Michael Tracy, John Tracy, Irene Tracy, Agnes D’Agostino, James Tracy, and Edward Tracy.
A special thank you to Dr. David “Super Doc” Prezant for his exceptional care, support, and friendship to Tom over the years—and for the kindness and guidance he extended to Tom’s children, especially in these last few months.
Per Tom’s wishes, a private viewing will be held for immediate family in South Carolina. A celebration of life—far more fitting of his spirited personality—will be held in the Bronx, with details to be shared in the coming weeks.
