Abraham Pokrassa

Abraham (Abe) Pokrassa, aged 97, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2024, in Charlotte, NC. Beloved husband of Anita (nee Sowa) for 63 years. Loving father of John (Suze), Anne (Adam) and Elisabeth (Rony). Cherished grandfather of Ben, Joe, Jacob and Alex.

Abe was a native New Yorker and World War II Navy Veteran, having proudly served on the USS John R. Pierce, in the North Atlantic and Pacific theaters. After graduating from Colgate University, he studied at the University of Paris. He enjoyed a long and successful career in public relations and public affairs, primarily in entertainment, travel, and sports as well as international non-profit organizations. This included serving as Director of Publicity at Radio City Music Hall where he met his wife, Anita, who was a Rockette at the time.

Abe was a world traveler, avid photographer, voracious reader, music lover and spoke multiple languages. His insatiable curiosity, sense of humor, and independent spirit never waned.

He never hesitated to help a stranger, acknowledge a fellow veteran, or show gratitude to a firefighter.

He will be dearly missed by his family and those who knew him near and far.
