

Mr. Albert Edward Burgess, husband of Lilian Walters Burgess, departed this earthly life and entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at Tera Bella Memory Care facility in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Albert was born on March 12, 1930 to the late Charles Leduax Burgess and Lucy Cecelia Williams-Burgess. Albert was their fifth child and a source of pride from the very beginning.
Growing up in Guyana, Albert attended Corentyne High School, where he began shaping the hardworking and dedicated man he would become. After graduating High School he attended Albion Trade School in Guyana. He migrated to America in 1970. He attended Albert Merrill School, Alfred E. Smith Trade School and Apex Technical School, all in the New York City area. He received his Engineers License and many Certifications for all of his studies.
In Guyana his career began as a Construction Supervisor and then moving on to become an Independent Contractor. In the United States his career began as a Maintenance Mechanic. He then moved on to become a Lead Plumber. The sky's the limit for Albert Burgess so he then became a Licensed Engineer. He held the position of Stationary Engineer for a time but soon after he was promoted to Director of Engineering at Bronx Lebanon Hospital from which he retired in March 1996.
Though he spent much of his life in the New York and New Jersey area, he sought peace and serenity in his later years, choosing to retire to Palm Coast, Florida. He cherished the tranquility of his new home.
Albert is survived by his wife Lilian Walters Burgess; his children: Clephane (Leila) Burgess, Hazel (Gordon) Harris, Michael (Gloria) Walters, Aubrey (Violet) Burgess and Waveney Crawford; His grandchildren: Alana Burgess-Johnson, Marjorie Burgess, Clephane(Mickey) Burgess, Jose Harris, Mercedes Harris, Chrystal Burgess, Christopher Burgess, Gordon(Jr) Harris, Catherine(CJ) Burgess, Jessica Burgess and Sarah Walters. He was the last surviving sibling. He is preceded in death by brothers; Edmund Burgess, Harvey Burgess, Archibald Burgess, Clephane Burgess, Henry Burgess, Sisters; Lucy Burgess-Ellison and Sarah Burgess-Williams; and Son: Mark Ondaan.
Albert Burgess’ legacy also lives on through his host of nieces, nephews, extended family and many dear friends who will miss him greatly.
Services will be held at McEwen Funeral Home - Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Rd., Charlotte, NC with a visitation on Saturday, March 1, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, and a funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM . A committal service will occur at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC 28212. Everyone is invited back to the Pineville Chapel for a Repass in their Upper Room.
