

Albert (Al) Bartley Haywood, age 68, of Iron Station, NC left this world & graduated to his eternal home in heaven on January 2, 2017 at Gaston Memorial Hospital, where he received excellent care by the SICU nurses & doctors, after suffering a very severe stroke. He was proceeded in death by his father A.B. Haywood & mother Jean Weber Haywood. Mr. Haywood was a beloved husband to Patsy (Jones) Haywood for 47 years & together they raised three fine/godly young men: Christopher of Denver, NC/ Matthew of Lincolnton, NC & Patrick of Iron Station, NC. He loved his 3 daughters-in-law like daughters: Davina (Bullock) Haywood, Tracy (Norton) Haywood & Christina (Foster) Haywood. Five grandchildren were the light of “Poppy’s” life: Sarah, Samuel, Huston, Lyla Grace & Levi. He also leaves behind two sisters: Catherine Page (and husband Joe) of Charlotte, NC & Florence Haywood of Oakboro, NC, plus numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law & brothers-in-law. He had an extra special relationship with his mother-in-law Goldie Jones, of Roan Mountain, TN, who loved him like the son she never had. He was a graduate of Independence High School & attended CPCC for two years before joining the Army. He was a very active & faithful member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Denver, NC, where his eldest son pastors. He loved the Lord, the Bible, hymns of faith, picking up children on the church van, cleaning the church building, mowing the grass & fellowshipping with other Christians. Mr. Haywood served as a Specialist 4 in the United States Army’s 25th Infantry during the Vietnam War and received an honorable discharge on January 2, 1971. His medals included: the Bronze Star Medal & Army Commendation Medal. Services will be held on Friday, January 6 at Sunset Road Baptist Church in Charlotte, with Pastor Chris Haywood officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 11:30 am and the funeral service immediately following. Burial service will be at Forest Lawn West. Forest Lawn West is in charge of the arrangements.
