OBITUARY

Alexander John Shinas

September 20, 1946May 17, 2020

Alexander John Shinas, 73, of Charlotte, NC, passed away peacefully on the morning of May 17, 2020.

Alex is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sophia, his son John, his daughter Anastasia, his daughter-in-law Stacy and his grandsons Jacob, Nathan, Sebastian and Isaac. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all.

Alex devoted his last 30 years to his career as an engineer at CSI/Ametek. He was considered one of the most knowledgeable and respected in his field and he had a genuine passion for his craft.

Alex enjoyed deep sea fishing, watching soccer games, reading, traveling to his native and beloved Greece, and spending time with his family. He is deeply missed and will be mourned by all who love him. Alex’s legacy will be carried on by his beloved son John, who follows in his footsteps as a successful mechanical engineer.

A special thanks to Atrium Health Pineville Emergency Department for allowing his family to say goodbye and for staying by his side and holding his hand when we were unable to due to COVID19 policy. His ER doctor, Dr. Jonathan Zygowiec’s kindness and compassion were exceptional, set our hearts at peace, and will never be forgotten.

Due to the current climate with COVID19, there will not be a public service at this time. In a few months, a memorial service will take place and an announcement will be made.

On-line condolences may be shared at www.mcewenpinevillechapel.com.

So sad to hear the news of Alex' passing - and so sorry for the family's separation from his physical presence. I had the pleasure of working with Alex for 10+ years at CSI and even got to spend some occasional quality time with him and his buddies playing Texas Hold'em. Alex' passion and intelligence were as evident during those sessions as he demonstrated every day in his work life designing sophisticated piping systems. He was a true expert in his field, a supreme storyteller, and overall great guy. I will miss Alex and our conversations - and send love and prayers to the family during this difficult time. May you take comfort in the love and support around you and look forward the day when you will be reunited again.

I worked with Alex at CSI/Ametek when I started my career back in 1991 and he was a great person to talk to when you needed to learn something, Prayers to the family.

To Alex's family and friends,
I knew and worked with Alex for over 30 years. He was a great person, father, grandfather and co-worker. I have many memories of him as we had lunch at John's. He was the most knowledgeable person I ever worked with in my career.
He will be greatly missed.
Linda and I send our prayers to his family.
