Aliene Ritchie, of Matthews, NC departed this life August 24, 2010, at her residence. She was born January 14, 1921, in Yadkin County. She was the daughter of the late George Bryant Kiger and Myrtle Mackie Kiger. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Frank Ritchie, her daughter Frieda Simpson and her sister Dorothy Baity.
Mrs. Ritchie loved and missed her 'Frank' they were side by side most of their married life. They owned and operated the Wingate Telephone company many years ago. They later sold the phone company and moved to Daytona Beach and bought the Nomad Motel. Several years later they retired and moved back to Matthews. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed making all of her friends and family their favorite things to eat. She loved the outdoors and worked hard on keeping her yard the way she wanted it, especially in the fall.
Survivors include her two grandsons, Rodney Simpson and wife Amanda of Taylorsville, NC, and Bobby Simpson and wife Monica of Monroe, NC. Also surviving are 5 great-grandchildren who she dearly loved. Three nieces, Betty Ann Chandler and husband Bill of Longwood Fl., Carolyn Barksdale and husband Lee of Greensboro, NC and Dotte Garbe and husband Kurt of Banner Elk, NC and a large extended loving family.
The family would like to express a world of gratitude to Hospice and Palliative Care of Charlotte and all their staff. The family would also like to thank caregivers Sharon Sperling, Lisette Conner, Gloria Rogers, Candace Efird and Candace Hinson for all their care, love and support over the past three years.
A service to honor the life of Mrs. Ritchie will be held at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC 28212, on Saturday, August 28, at 12:00 p.m., with Reverend Dan Cole officiating The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Charlotte, 1420 E. 7th Street, Charlotte, NC 28204. Arrangements under the direction of McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park, Charlotte, NC.
