

Alma attended elementary school in Rockbridge and graduated from Crossnore High School in Crossnore, North Carolina. She was married to her husband, Rufus Stow Pinkerton, for 62 years. Rufus died August 31, 2008. Alma had two sons, Reginal Pinkerton living in Cleveland, Virginia and Tevis Stow Pinkerton who died October 3, 2017.She retired from Southern Bell in Charlotte, North Carolina after serving 31 years for the company. Alma loved her church, Newell Presbyterian in Charlotte, and became an Honorary Life Member of the Presbyterian Women. She enjoyed helping with church activities and supported the children's programs. Alma also started a quilt club in the church and was recognized for her hard work. She was a member of the Pioneers and a member of the Newell Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. After retiring she enrolled in Central Piedmont in Charlotte in 1980 and took several classes.
Alma's main claim to fame was being the Neighborhood Watch Officer established by the Charlotte Police Department. She was very successful in getting the neighbors to participate. Alma absolutely enjoyed fishing on Lake Norman at her lake cabin. Anytime she had the chance she loved teaching little children her method of fishing.
Alma was preceded in death by four brothers, Shem Clark, Hurley Clark, Fred Clark and Tom Clark. She leaves behind two grandchildren Brad, his wife Emily and their children Norah and Shields Pinkerton of Daleville, Virginia and Melissa Pinkerton of Chicago, Illinois; two sisters, Pency Croy and Ann Moseley; brother Thurman Clark.
