She was born in Mecklenburg County on May 26, 1929, the daughter of the late Parks Independence Berryhill and Carrie Fulk Berryhill. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Clary Tiddy, sisters, Louise Warwick and Jeanette Warwick, and special friend and companion, Richard Austin.
Mrs. Tiddy was educated in the Charlotte City Schools and graduated from Central High School. Following high school, she entered Queens College where she excelled, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Education. She was actively involved in numerous campus activities including the May court, Student Council, Honor Council, honorary scholastic and leadership fraternities, and was listed in the 1951 Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.
Upon graduating from Queens, Mrs. Tiddy was selected to be secretary to the Superintendent of Charlotte City Schools, Dr. E.H. Garinger. After starting a family, her primary focus turned to being a wife, and mother to her children. As a mother she seemed to thrive on the chaos that comes with raising four energetic boys. She remarked on several occasions that due to the frequency of her children’s visits to the Presbyterian emergency room they knew her by name. While never complaining or uttering any unkind words she carted each one of her boys to every sporting event or school activity they were involved in…too numerous to count. Later she decided to use her degree in education and taught economics at McClintock Junior High School for seventeen years to help put her sons through college. The outdoors, especially gardening and backyard wildlife always made her happy but being with her family is what gave her the most pride and joy. She was the glue that held everyone together. She had an unwavering love and interest in her children and their spouses, grandchildren and their spouses, and great grandchildren. She possessed an unassuming intellect, an infectious laugh, a positive and upbeat perspective on life and was a true friend to all who knew her.
Mrs. Tiddy was a charter member of Covenant Presbyterian Church and later Carmel Presbyterian Church. She served as President of the Women of the Church and was awarded an Honorary Life Membership for her service. She served on various committees within the church and community and volunteered for many years at Presbyterian Hospital.
Survivors include her sons Mike Tiddy and wife Jo, Wayne Teddy and wife Leslie, Daryl Teddy and wife Karen, Brian Tiddy and wife Julie.
