Jane was born in Buncombe County, NC to James and Althea Godfrey. As a child she grew up in McDowell County, NC and later attended Western Carolina University. She was married 60 years to Samuel M. Gibson, who preceded her in death in 2004. They lived in Charlotte for 45 years, where she was a member of Providence Presbyterian Church. Jane retired from South Mecklenburg High School, where she worked 26 years as a secretary.
Jane is survived by one daughter Marsha Gibson Lee, her husband Michael, 5 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 2 pm at McEwen Funeral Home – Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Rd., Charlotte, NC 28210. Burial will follow immediately afterwards at Providence Presbyterian Church, 10140 Providence Church Ln., Charlotte, NC 28277.
