
Amy Wyatt Russell, 92, of Belmont, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2026. Born June 5, 1934 in Charlotte, she was the daughter of the late James Harold and Janie (Overcash) Wyatt. She was the wife of the late Gilbert W. Russell Sr.
A graduate of Harding High School, Amy was a member of South Point Baptist Church, Belmont, NC.
Amy enjoyed the outdoors and working in her yard. She also enjoyed reading her bible, crafting, feeding family and friends; and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Amy and Gilbert started taking their family camping when they were young, from tent to Air Stream camping. She was an active member in the Piedmont NC Airstream Club where she and Gilbert participated in numerous caravans including Alaska and the midwest. They traveled to numerous states with the Airstream Club.
A loving and faithful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who's nurturing spirit will be missed by all. Her witness and faith in Jesus Christ inspires all of her family to walk with the LORD.
Survivors include her children, Wanda Russell McCormick, Gil (Lynn) Russell and Darrell (Robin) Russell; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jason) Warren, Megan (Chad) Ritchie, Meredith (RC) Coleman, Courtney (Neil) Roche, Cody McCormick; great-grandchildren, Kyndall (Zack), Abigail, Gracyn, Stryker, Ian, Vann, Dean, Cooper, Cora, Cayman and Shay; sister-in-law, Becky Wyatt; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Amy was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Bob McCormick; sisters, Ruth (Max) Kirby and Pat Starnes; brothers, Larry Wyatt, Jim (Jean) Wyatt, Bobby (Ann) Wyatt and Joe Wyatt.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 am until 10:00 am on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at McEwen Funerals & Cremations at Forest Lawn West, 4601 Freedom Dr., Charlotte, NC. A graveside service will follow in Forest Lawn West Cemetery at 10:15 am following the visitation. Condolences may be submitted at www.forestlawnwest.com.
