Mr. Basinger, of Charlotte, NC died Friday December 31, 2010 at
Presbyterian Hospital.
He was born August 10, 1939 in Greensboro, NC., the youngest son of Pryde William Basinger Sr. And Irene Matheson Basinger. He grew up in Charlotte and graduated from Myers Park High School. He entered the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill graduating with a Bachelor degree in 1962. Marshall then obtained his law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1965. He was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity and Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity, North Carolina Bar Association, 26th Judicial District, the North Carolina State Bar, North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the Mecklenburg County Bar Association and was a founder of the PALs program in Charlotte. He was a Board Certified Family Law Specialist.
In his early years of law practice he was a leader in the efforts of the American Cancer Society of Charlotte and named Young Man of the Year by the Charlotte Jaycees.
He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Pryde William (Buzzy) Basinger Jr. He is survived by his son Andrew Marshall Basinger III and daughter in law Ashley, and his daughter Virginia Basinger Milan and son in law Derrek, six grandchildren, sister Jane Basinger Gage and husband Gaston, and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service to celebrate Marshall's life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday January 7, 2011 at Myers Park United Methodist Church. A reception will follow at Jubilee Hall.
Donations in Marshall's name can be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Myers Park United Methodist Church.
