Andrew B. Harrington, 90, while surrounded by his family, departed his earthly life on 12/12/17, to be with his Heavenly Father. Andy was born on a farm near Broadway, NC on September 15, 1927 to the late Charles Glenn and Delilah McLeod Harrington. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Charlotte Wilson and Gloria Harrington.
After graduating from Boone Trail High School, Andy attended Presbyterian Junior College (now St. Andrews in Laurinburg, NC). A proud Tar Heel, he earned his B. S. in Commerce at UNC – Chapel Hill in 1950. He soon embarked on a lifelong career of professional sales in the lock and hardware industry, primarily with Weiser and Falcon Lock companies, and achieved the distinction of becoming a certified architectural hardware consultant, AHC.
Andy was a lifelong Presbyterian and a man of deep faith and was a long time member of Paw Creek Presbyterian Church. He actively served as Sunday school teacher and Elder and was honored the distinction of Elder Emeritus. All the while he displayed deep respect for all things reverent.
Blessed with a keen memory while well read with divergent interests, he was a walking reference source and amazing storyteller. Andy is survived by his wife of 63 years, Doris; his daughter, Peggy, of Charlotte; son Paul (Myra) of Gastonia NC; and grandson, Adam Moore (Samantha) of Gastonia, NC. He is survived by his sister, Dixie Perez, of Broadway, NC; best friend and cousin, T. Bragg McLeod of Charlotte; as well as several nephews and nieces. At this time the family would like to thank the staff of CMC-Main for their excellent care of Andy and their concern for the family.
Mr. Harrington chose to have his remains cremated. A memorial service will be held Saturday, 12/16/17, at 2:00PM at Paw Creek Presbyterian Church in Paw Creek, NC, officiated by Reverend Elliott Hipp. A second service will be held Monday, 12/18/17, at 11:00AM at Mt. Pisgah Presbyterian Church in Broadway, NC. A reception will be held afterwards hosted by T. Bragg McLeod. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Paw Creek Presbyterian Church.
