Andrew Charles Wysmuller, age 73, of Charlotte, known as “Andy” to friends and family passed away on January 7th, 2021, from coronavirus, leaving behind a very full life of funny memories, laughter, and love.

Born in Holland,1947, Andy was raised in Bayside, Queens, New York. He met his beautiful wife, Ellen, during their college years in Vermont. Andy served in the United States Army Reserve for 26 years while simultaneously working a variety of different jobs in teaching, insurance, management and animal behavior.

Humor was an intrinsic part of Andy. He was always quick with a joke, smile, or laugh and brought so much happiness to all who surrounded him. If smiles were his currency, he would be a very rich man.

Andy is survived by his wife, Ellen; his children, Steven Wysmuller (Lauren) and Jennifer Bernstein; his grandchildren, Ben, Nina, and Samara Wysmuller and Evie Bernstein; his brothers, Tom and Allan Wysmuller; and niece and nephews.

A lifelong lover of animals, Andy volunteered at Animal Care and Control. A private memorial service will take place on Sunday, January 10th. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Charlotte Mecklenburg Animal Services at bit.ly/AndyCares.

Andy brought joy and laughter wherever he went, he was never a stranger to me as he welcomed me as a friend as soon as I moved in the neighborhood. When I look at my little dog I can’t help but think of Andy how he brought the two of us together I
will forever be grateful. Andy rescued me from a snake, bat in the bathtub, Woodpecker’s, and a squirrel in the house, he never complained once.
My love and prayers go out to you Ellen and your children, and he was a very special friend that you could always count on for wisdom and laughter
He will be greatly missed.

Condolences from cousin Mitch (& Maureen) and our children Joseph, Molly Rae, and Will. We were shocked and very saddened to hear, and sorry to be out of touch for so long. Reading about Andy reminded me that you had lived in Vermont, where we live now. May Andy's memory be for a blessing. Much love from our family to yours.

Always quick with a joke and ready to chat, Andy was a neighbor anyone would be absolutely lucky to have. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know him over the last couple of years, and he will be missed dearly by myself and all of those whom loved him so. Ellen and family, my deepest condolences go out to you in this time of loss. My thoughts are with all of you.

I worked with Andy at Petco Arboretum. He was always passionate in his love for animals and his customers. Many times customers would come into the store and ask for him if he was not at work. Very sorry to learn of his passing.

Ellen, Steven, and Jennifer....I was so saddened when Brett called me to share the news of Andy’s passing. I’m so very sorry for your sudden loss. Even though I have lost touch personally with you all, I have kept up through Brett. Seems like yesterday that the kids were swimming, riding bikes, carpooling, etc. The good old Hembstead days were some of the best. Sending all of you my deepest sympathy.
