Ann McKinney, 98, of Concord NC passed away September 1 at the Brian Center in Concord. Ann was born on November 21, 1918 in Snow Hill NC to John Walker Hunter & Blanche Sylivant Hunter. She moved to Charlotte NC where she resided most of her life. Ann became the first female Police Officer with the Charlotte Police Department in 1948 working as a meter maid in the downtown Charlotte area. She retired from CMPD in 1973 after 25 years of service. She is predeceased by parents John & Blanche Hunter, her husband Jimmy McKinney, and her brothers John Jr. “Tarzan”, Jay “Junior” & Thomas “Tommy”. She is survived by nieces Teresa Barnhardt, Debbie Taucz, Cathy Clements, Lynda Phillips & Suellyn Enright and nephew John Hunter. For 7 years prior to her passing, she resided with her great nephew’s family John, Carly & Adley Barnhardt.
Receiving will be held at McEwen September 7 2017 at 10:00 AM with the service following at 11:00 AM officiated by Rev Jesse Watkins. A brief graveside service will follow at Evergreen Cemetery with Police Honor Guards where she will be laid to rest with her husband.
