

Annie Lois Edwards, age 94, of Charlotte, North Carolina passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2025. Annie was born in Shelby, NC to the late Franklin Curtis Sweezy, Sr. and Lula Poole on March 21, 1930.
Annie spent her younger years on the family farm in Shelby, NC. Annie often talked of the hard work on the farm and had many fond memories of working in the fields with her family.
Annie was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a homemaker who raised three daughters and cared for countless other children who referred to her as Mama Lois. Some of her hobbies included sewing and gardening. She loved to cook and always made the holidays special for her family. Annie loved to sing; as a teenager she and her sisters sang for local radio stations and churches. Her favorite music was gospel. She loved her family and worked hard to make sure we had everything we needed. She loved God and served in various ways at St. Luke United Methodist Church where she was a long term member.
Annie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jerry Thomas Edwards; siblings McClellan Sweezy, Ward (Mary Ann) Sweezy, Vernie Lou (Claude Ray) Philbeck, Ruth (Hazel) McSwain, Franklin (Joyce) Sweezy, Jr., and Brenda (Gary) Carter. She is survived by her children Robin (Ronnie) Scruggs, Kari (Peter) Lopiano, Kim (Scott) Kaufhold; siblings Doris (Bill) Werling, Gerald (Cornelia) Sweezy; grandchildren Jose (Amy) Huertas Delpino, Amanda Neal, Amy Scruggs, Andrew (Erin) Lopiano, Jonathan (Harper) Lopiano, Matthew Lopiano, Hannah Kaufhold, Abby Kaufhold, Julia Kaufhold; many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family extends their thanks and appreciation to the staff at Clear Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and the VIA Health Partners hospice care team for their commitment to Annie’s care.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2025 beginning at 1pm at McEwen Funeral Service, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte 28212. Funeral Service will begin at 2pm. Entombment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.
