Annie (Ann) Ruth Alderman Neely, surrounded by her family’s love, entered the Kingdom of God on February 9, 2024. She was a dedicated Christian who is now in the presence of her Lord and her predeceased loved ones.
Ann was a beacon of love to her family and friends. She nurtured everyone with unwavering love and instilled in them the values of compassion, kindness, hard work, and service to others. Ann and her much loved husband, Al Neely, who passed away on December 19, 2020, were the magnets who drew together large, four generation family gatherings. They orchestrated annual family trips to the beach. To celebrate their 50th anniversary, they took the entire family on a Caribbean cruise. Christmas and other holidays were not complete without a trip to their family home.
Ann was born in Rock Hill, SC on November 15, 1932 to Paul and Gladys Alderman. Her beloved older brother Harold passed away some years ago. She cherished her relationships with her younger brother, Wayne, his wife Judy, and nieces and nephews in MA and GA.
Ann earned a degree in Nursing from Winthrop and UNC-Charlotte. As a highly skilled and knowledgeable Registered Nurse, Ann worked at several clinics and hospitals during her career. Her work improved the health of countless patients and the success of countless medical professionals.
During her long tenure at Charlotte Orthopedic Hospital, she was promoted to Assistant Director of Nursing and Quality Assurance. She lead the effort to establish best medical practices in preparation of, and in response to, evaluations by The Joint Commission. For her leadership and engagement with staff and patients, Ann was presented with The Frist Humanitarian Award in 1983.
Ann said some of the things she loved included watching her kids and her grandchildren grow up, camping trips, mountain picnics, watching the stars when they lived in Tryon, walking the beaches at Ocean Isle, and their travels to California and New Mexico. Ann and Al enjoyed many trips throughout the United States and Europe.
Ann was an avid reader and a fantastic cook. Ann and Al tutored in schools for many years after they retired. She enjoyed shopping, phone calls and visits from her dear friends.
Ann was a loving mother to her three children Alesa Klein, Ed Neely and Alan Neely, and their spouses Greg, Gail, Pam, and Sharon (late). She was devoted to her eight grandchildren, their spouses, and her great-grandchildren: Travis, Audrey, Cooper and Lauren Klein; Dana Neely; Ryan, Mackie, Tanner, Eliza and Caroline Neely; Christopher, Anne Randall, Penny, Haines and Mary George Klein; Kate Neely; Kevin, Ashlyn, Reese and Paul Neely; Jenna, Jonathan and Alec Mowbray; and Cara Neely.
The family wishes to thank the staff and therapists at Matthews Glen’s Cherry Blossom for their dedicated work in caring for Ann Neely. Following a private service at MUMC, interment is at Sharon Memorial Gardens, Charlotte, NC.
