Tony, the son of Douglas Glen Archbold and Sadie Lazarus, was born in the small town of Colon, Panama Canal Zone, in 1942 and immigrated to the United States at the age of 14. He spent his teenage years in Jamaica, Queens, New York, with his beloved sister, Vilma, and brother, Raul.
Tony joined the United States Army during the Vietnam War at the age of 19. Tony committed himself to the values of duty, honor, and country. His years in uniform reflected his strong sense of patriotism and a deep commitment to protecting the freedoms we hold dear. Whether stationed at home or abroad, he carried out his service with integrity and quiet strength.
After his honorable military service, Tony went on to build a life rooted in family, hard work, and community. Known for his steady presence and generous heart, he was a beloved and loyal husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. Tony was a one-of-a-kind individual with enormous charisma and a huge heart. Tony lived a remarkable life full of ups and downs, consistently demonstrating resilience, tenacity, and determination.
Tony found his true passion and purpose in life 35 years ago when he joined the AA community, where he freely shared his wisdom, sponsoring and mentoring over three hundred brothers and sisters from all walks of life.
Tony found joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether that was telling stories from his days traveling around the world, going to the beach with his wife, sister, and brother-in-law (Lonnie), or enjoying time with his sons and grandchildren.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his loving and faithful wife of fifty years, Omaida; sister, Vilma; children, Kim, Lisa, Deryck, Justin, Antonio (Isabel), and Ivan (Melissa). He also leaves behind eleven grandchildren (Ashleigh, Travis, Nicole, Anthony, Tsahai, Joshua, Elisha, Isa, Damian, Sebastian, and Gabriel); eight great grandchildren (Townsend, Lennox, Jayce, Elliot, Kash, Kanaan, Julius, and Jaizel); and a host of cousins, friends from Panama, and a loving AA family that will carry forward his legacy of love, strength, and service.
Tony’s family would like to thank you for all the support and kind and thoughtful words during this time of sorrow. Your prayers, visits, calls, and acts of kindness will always be remembered with deep gratitude. May God bless each of you.
