Archie is survived by his Daughter, Shannon Keel and her husband, Andy of Lancaster, South Carolina; his Son, Brent Porter, of Rock Hill, South Carolina; Grandchildren: Allison Keel, Vincent Keel, and Michael Porter; Great Grandchild, Abraham McAllister Porter; and sister, Helen Porter and her husband, Martin Sondey of Mint Hill, North Carolina. He is preceded in death by his Sister, Dora Ann Frazier Arey.
Archie was born on December 10, 1943 in Charlotte, North Carolina to parents Laurine Gordon Porter and Archibald Alexander Porter. He graduated from South Mecklenburg High School in 1961 and served honorably in the U. S. Navy from 1964 to 1968 earning the rank of TM2. His last service was on the USS Samuel Gompers where he worked in submarine torpedo maintenance.
Archie worked in various jobs throughout his life – construction, plumbing, landscaping. He was a “jack of all trades” and could do anything he put his mind to. He always believed in doing the very best job at anything he attempted.
Archie is remembered and much loved by family and his many friends as generous, clever, quick with his mind, and courageous. He was his own man who, we say lovingly, rarely considered doing anything in any way but his own. He also loved music of all kinds and was always listening to or sometimes playing it with his friends very loudly! But of all of his many loves, his love of family was the greatest. He cherished his family and would do anything for them. We love him and will miss him so.
There will be a graveside service with full military honors at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte, NC the week of December 28. The date and time to be determined.
We invite everyone to attend a Memorial service on Tuesday, December 29 at 2:00 pm at Arrowhead Valley Baptist Church, 159 Arrowhead Road, (Indian Land) Lancaster, SC 29720. Pastor David Harvey will officiate.
