Arthur William Cummings Jr., 82, passed away on April 5, 2025, at University Hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina. Born on March 8, 1943, in Queens, New York, Arthur—known to many as Art—lived a life marked by dedication to family, hard work, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life.
Art began his career in the fast food industry at Burger Chef in Charlotte, where he started with cooking hamburgers. He later joined Burger King under Woodlo, Inc. His strong work ethic and natural leadership skills quickly became evident, which allowed him to steadily rise through the ranks to become a District Manager. His career path also led him to Little Caesars before returning to Burger King under Golden B Enterprises. There, he served as both District Manager and resident "Computer Guru," combining his managerial expertise with a passion for learning new technologies.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Art was a man of many interests. He found joy in fishing and boating, often spending time outdoors enjoying nature’s tranquility. He was a member of the Lake Norman Sail & Power Squadron for many years and enjoyed their classes and meetings. A devoted reader and lifelong learner, he constantly sought to expand his knowledge about the things he loved. Art had a particular fondness for seafood, not only eating it but also preparing it himself. Gardening was another of his passions; he took pride in nurturing plants and watching them flourish under his attentive care.
Art's commitment to family was unwavering. He was a devoted husband to Joyce "Carole" Cummings, whom he lovingly cared for over thirteen years after she suffered severe health complications from septic shock following chemotherapy. His role as caregiver reflected the depth of his compassion and sense of responsibility—qualities that defined him throughout his life.
He is survived by his daughter, Heather Junker; son-in-law, Carl Junker; and grandson, Tom Junker, all of whom were central to his world. He cherished every moment spent with them and was always present with love, support, and laughter. His sister, Joan Witt also survives him, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Longtime family friends, Pat Williams and Janet Maddry held a special place in Art’s heart.
Art was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carole; his mother, Joan Muniz Cummings; father, Arthur William Cummings Sr.; and brother-in-law, Harold Witt.
Art was a member of Huntersville United Methodist Church where his spiritual community provided him with strength and fellowship throughout the years. Prior to that, he worshipped at Hawthorne Lane United Methodist Church in Charlotte.
Known for his honesty, kindness, and infectious sense of humor, Art never met a stranger. He had an innate ability to connect with people from all walks of life—a true people person who brought warmth wherever he went. His neighbors were not just neighbors, they were valued friends.
Arthur William Cummings Jr.'s legacy is one of love, laughter, resilience, and service—to family, friends, colleagues, and community alike. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire all who were touched by his generous spirit.
A graveside service for Art will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, April 19, 2025 at Forest Lawn West Cemetery, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC. Condolences may be submitted at www.forestlawnwest.com.
