On November 18, 2025, Arthur T McGann, born June 18, 1924, passed away peacefully at his son’s home in South Carolina. A resident of his beloved Connellsville for over ninety-five years, before moving to the Carolinas, he led a purpose filled life in service to others.
There are those who view the world as their backyard, Art saw his backyard as his world and thoroughly enjoyed playing an active role in making his community a better place. His innate talents fostered a diverse career, that in a variety of ways helped develop close relationships within the community at large. Arthur was a friend, mentor, counselor, and inspiration to anyone who met him.
Shortly after graduating from Connellsville High School, he served his country during the WWII, flying 43 combat mission in a B24 bomber in the South Pacific. After serving his country with distinction he returned home to marry and spend 78 years with, predeceased, Dorothy Savage.
Arthur is survived by youngest son Michael and his wife Debbie, and eldest son Richard and his wife Jane. They both live in South Carolina. He is also survived by his grandson, Douglas, his wife Ali, great-grandsons Kieran and Christian, who reside in Connecticut, and Richard’s daughter Shannon McGann, who has played an instrumental role in supporting her grandfather during his time of need.
As a devoted father he served as Assistant Scout Master and mentored his children more by example than lecture. He felt deeply for his grand and great grandchildren and looked forward to those opportunities to unite his extended family. Exemplifying the breath of his talents Art transitioned from carpentry, plumbing, building bridges in Pittsburgh to, for over 44 years, serve as Office Manager for Morrow Lease Trucking Company. He was the longest serving Chairman of the Connellsville Redevelopment Authority (26 years). He oversaw the construction of Connellsville’s first Water Treatment Plant and served as its Superintendent for 13 years.
Art was proud to be the most senior member of Connellsville’s Fraternal Order of Elks, a “Life – Legacy” member of the VFW, was inducted into the CHS Hall of Fame (class of 2016) and was an active Board member of Pleasant Valley Country Club… where he endeared himself to its membership…who to this day regularly echo many of his folksy colloquialisms. Most importantly he was proud to be one of the oldest active partitioners at the Otterbein United Methodist church.
This WW ll Hero, devoted father, public servant and all-round kind and good man will be sorely missed.
