Aubrey “Pete” Smith Pardue, 86, of Charlotte, formerly High Point, NC, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2020. Pete was born on November 21, 1933 to Walter Smith and Cloyce Blackburn Pardue in Wilkes County, NC.
He attended Mountain View High School and after graduation enlisted in the United States Army. He served in occupied Germany and after his return to the States, served in the Army Reserve.
Pete married Betty Jo Benfield in 1956 and they settled in High Point, NC where they would raise their three children: Steve, Teresa and Perry. Pete began work in the mail room of Heritage Furniture in 1956 and retired from there in 1996 as the plant manager. In his retirement, Pete enjoyed the fellowship of his fellow Oakdale Methodist Church members, gardening, playing golf, and trips to the beach. He continued to work part-time in the furniture industry until the age of 80. Pete took special delight in the company of his grandchildren.
Pete is predeceased by his parents; his wife, Betty; his beloved son, Perry; his brothers, Jim and Donnie; and his sister, Betty. He is survived by his son, Steve (Debbie); his daughter, Teresa Robbins (Wayne); his daughter-in-law, Tammy Pardue; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Bost, Dixie, (Harvie) Blackburn, Linda (Jim) Long, and Susie (Mike) Jordan. In addition, Pete is survived by many nieces and nephews.
A gathering of friends and family will be held in High Point, NC at a date to be determined later in the year.
