Barbara Davis Greaves

She was born in June 14, 1938 in Washington, DC to Clinton Davis and Helen Green. She is survived by her sister Merline and Yvonne and has left to be with her brothers Eugene and Ronald.

At age 13 she moved to New York to live with her father and later graduated from Franklin K. Lane High School. After graduating high school, Barbara met and married the late Charles B. Greaves, Sr. and from that union were two children, son Charles Bernard Greaves, Jr. and their late daughter, Dawn Renay Greaves.

Barbara enjoyed traveling with her close friends Carol, Dorothy and Elaine. She particularly enjoyed vacationing in the Caribbean. Another long enjoyed pastime was playing Bingo at St. Mary Magdalene Church. Lately, she enjoyed various courtroom and crime dramas.

She was gifted at working with numbers and was employed as an accountant for the U. S. Coast Guard Service and Royal Insurance Company. In 1986, Royal moved to Charlotte and Barbara relocated with them. Her son followed in her steps, worked as an accountant with Royal and relocated to Charlotte also. Dawn followed a year later.

In 1987, Dawn gave birth to Sean. Barbara dedicated herself to helping raise the new addition to the family spending the next 18 years ensuring he enjoyed a quality education and a safe and warm home. She took pride that Sean graduated from the University of North Carolina and has become a productive and confident young man.

Barbara was a devout Christian and a member of Salem Baptist Church where she served in the finance ministry. A generous person, she extended herself to help family and friends in their time of need offering sound advice, financial support and a comforting shoulder. The fruits of her spirit can be found in the warm memories cherished by her nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and associates.

She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved grandson, Sean Greaves, her son Charles, his wife Shenae and their children Devin, Shane and Troi.

Barbara will be missed but never forgotten.

A Service to Celebrate Barbara's Life will be held at 11:00am Saturday, March 19, 2016 in the Paul Helton Chapel of Forest Lawn West. Inurnment will follow the service in Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
