Barbara Kelly Woodlief, 77, of Charlotte, passed away Friday, March 30, 2012, at her home. She was born January 10, 1935, in Warrenton, NC, the daughter of Wesley Cecil and Lucie (Holmes) Kelly. Barbara grew up in Henderson, NC, before graduating from UNC Greensboro. She also earned her Master’s Degree in Education from Manhattanville College. She took pride in her position as a high school English and History teacher.
She was active at her church, Weddington United Methodist Church, where she participated in Kings and Queens, Prime Chimers, and Caring Hearts. Barbara enjoyed the beach, reading books, Duke Basketball, and playing bridge with one of her many bridge clubs. But above all else, Barbara took exceptional joy in her grandchildren. She was a very loving, caring, and kind person who will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Scott Thomas Woodlief; brother, Charles Wesley Kelly.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 54 years, Guy Forrest Woodlief, Jr.; son, Guy Wesley Woodlief; daughter in-law, Joyce Ann Woodlief; grandchildren, Christopher Theodore Woodlief, Jaclyn Kelly Woodlief, and Nicole Ann Woodlief.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at 1:00 pm at McEwen Funeral Service – Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210. Visitation will be held Monday, April 2, from 6:00 – 8:00pm at the funeral home and one hour prior to Tuesday’s service. Burial will be held in Forest Lawn East Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Caring Hearts, a service providing food for the elderly, in care of Weddington United Methodist Church.
