

Betty Yerton Couch of Alpharetta, Ga. passed away on Tuesday, December 22nd, 2015 at the age of 89. Betty was born in Newell, North Carolina to Marion Grier and Mary Stewart Yerton on November 7th, 1926. She grew up on a family dairy farm in Newell, the youngest of six children. Four brothers Marion, Boyce, Bill, Charlie, and one sister Ruth.
In her youth, Betty taught herself to play the piano, sang in the church choir, and played on her high school basketball team. Following high school, Betty went to work at Southern Bell/AT&T in Charlotte. She worked in Charlotte six years, earned several awards, and was asked by management to go to Columbia to help start up a new office in a supervisory role. Betty spent 6 years in Columbia, and during a holiday in Myrtle Beach, SC met her husband of 58 years, Frank Couch Jr..
Frank and Betty were married in June of 1956 at Newell Presbyterian Church. They started their life together in Ames, Iowa where Frank was completing his Master’s degree and Betty delivered her first of four children. From this moment forward, Betty devoted her life to supporting her family. She was a wonderful mother always doing her best to help her children succeed. Betty was an accomplished seamstress, making many of her own clothes, even winning an award in the North Carolina State Fair for one of her dresses. She loved gardening, animals, and time with her family.
Betty and Frank retired to New Smyrna Beach, Florida in 1986 where they spent many active years living by the water and enjoying the Florida sunshine before moving to be close to family in Alpharetta, Georgia in 2005.
Betty lost her husband, Frank, in 2014 and is survived by her four children: Frank III (Cathy White), Maria (Frank Dolbow), Linda (Don Chandler), Janet, and 6 grandchildren; Laura, Mary, Stephen, Kevin, Caroline, and Rachel.
A private family service will be held at Newell Presbyterian Church on Monday, December 28th, 2015.
